Whoa, what are all these new posts?

It's official, I'm switching to Posterous. For the past few weeks, I've been trying it out, and it's made posting a lot easier, so I'm making the move.

If you're subscribed to my feed, the transition should have happened seamlessly a few weeks ago. And now you can also subscribe by email!

My self-maintained install of Wordpress has served me well, but creating a new post was too much work, and my links ended up piling up in my delicious account. The final straw was when I inadvertently started selling viagra during my last vacation, due to a security flaw (whoops!).

With Posterous, I can focus on bringing you cool content, and not worry about the administrative side. For now I'm using their default theme, but perhaps at some point I'll take the time to add something custom.

Innovative TV from Bose

This new TV from Bose has a couple of interesting innovations:

  • Surround-sound speakers built into the TV. This presumably works something like a soundbar. The reviewer is very enthusiastic, though I'd be curious to hear how they perform in different size rooms, and how easy they are to calibrate.
  • A universal-remote that uses the TV screen as a display, rather than a separate LCD screen on the remote. This is clever, though I think I'd still prefer to use my smartphone.

Revive Smartphone

The Revive smartphone is a great concept phone. I like that they're innovating at all levels: interface, materials, assembly and even business model:

The concept also includes a membership system that rewards users for keeping their phones longer.

Make sure to watch the video at the bottom, it's cute. (originally via Anil Dash)

Let's get digital

Media_httpwwwblogcdnc_hhhdc

It's perhaps a minor issue but one of the things I like about WP7 is that it's not a digital UI pretending to be analog. The user interface is flat. There are no photorealistic depictions of real world items, no shading, and no 3D effects. Everything is conveyed through the use of fonts, shapes and color. It's digital and it's proud. Overall, I like it, and the more I use it, the more I prefer it.

Though I have yet to see a Windows 7 phone in person, I really like this observation by Michael Gartenberg. The compass, notes and recorder apps on the iPhone have always seemed awkward to me.
